新竹六燃和頭前溪猶如兩股螺旋體，交互詮釋向前開展，交織出新竹六燃獨有的「生態-文化永續體」，涵蓋了不同族群迭代的歷史記憶、生命紋理，以及頭前溪流域不同時期的樣態。文件展所提出的洄游路徑可被視為自然演化和人類文明交纏推進的動態進程，意圖給出人、地、歷史、記憶、物種、生態同時依附又彼此衝突的複雜樣態。

在六燃歷史與生態交纏的動態網絡中，策展團隊展開洄游六燃，理解六燃和建構六燃的文資保存活化再生產，探問：流淌三百年的頭前溪河水與七十年跨度的三場戰爭記憶——二戰、國共內戰、冷戰，能以何種樣態成為眾人的想像共同體？

The Sixth Fuel Factory Documenta 2025: Tracing the Origin of the Sixth Fuel Factory along the Touqian River

Resembling a double helix, the Hsinchu Branch of the Sixth Fuel Factory and the Touqian River interpret each other interactively as they move forward, hence “an ecology-culture continuum” which encompasses not only the historical memories and life textures of diverse ethnic groups for generations but also the topography of the Touqian River in different periods of time. The migration routes proposed in this documenta can be regarded as a dynamic process in which natural evolution is intertwined with human civilization, that is to say, the documenta reveals the hybrid modalities of interdependence and conflict among people, places, history, memories, species, and ecology.

The curatorial team engages in the preservation, revitalization, and regeneration of the Sixth Fuel Factory by revisiting, understanding, and constructing it as a cultural asset within a dynamic network interlaced by the factory’s history and ecology, making the documenta revolve around the question as to how the water of the Touqian River which has been flowing for 300 years and the memories of the three wars—the Second World War, the Chinese Civil War, and
Cold War—that span 70 years can become an imagined community of the multitude.

《六燃大事記》詳實記錄新竹六燃廠區的歷史發展，從戰爭時期的日軍燃料廠、戰後的工業遺址，到近年來的都市再生與生態保育。涵蓋1940年代台灣能源開發與軍事遺跡，如竹東天然氣開採、六燃廠區建設及盟軍轟炸等歷史事件；也紀錄近年來地方政府推動「大煙囪廠房基地保溫睦鄰駐站計畫」的進程，並納入將軍村、地下油庫等周邊歷史地景的保存與再利用。也同時記錄霜毛蝠生態保育議題，折射出工業遺址與生態共存的可能性。六燃廠區的發展見證了新竹從軍事與工業重鎮轉型為科技城市，彰顯出文化資產保存與環境永續的重要性。

The Chronicle of the Sixth Fuel Factory, Hsinchu Branch provides a detailed record of the historical development of this site, tracing its transformation from a fuel factory of the Imperial Japanese Navy during the war to its current status as a post-war industrial relic undergoing urban regeneration and ecological conservation. The chronicle covers key moments in Taiwan’s energy development and military relics in the 1940s, including natural gas extraction in Zhudong, the construction of the Sixth Fuel Factory, bombings by Allied Forces, and other significant events. It also documents the local government’s recent efforts in promoting the “Good Neighborliness Residency Project at the Big Chimney Factory Base,” alongside the preservation and adaptive reuse of surrounding historical sites, such as Jiangjun Village and the underground fuel depot. In addition, the chronicle addresses ecological conservation issues concerning the Asian Parti-Colored Bats, reflecting on the possibility of coexistence between industrial relics and ecology. The development of the Sixth Fuel Factory reflects the broader transformation of Hsinchu—from a military and industrial hub to a center of science and technology—highlighting the importance of cultural heritage preservation and environmental sustainability.
