The Japanese Imperial Navy’s Sixth Fuel Factory, Hsinchu Branch, stands as a witness to the city’s wartime history. Through careful restoration and reutilization, it has been transformed into a new cultural and artistic landmark. The project unfolds in four phases: restoring historical buildings, revitalizing the residential complex, developing a multimedia lab and youth entrepreneurship village, and introducing the Big Chimney art exhibition and performance venue. This blend of industrial relics with contemporary art demonstrates the government’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage while fostering urban regeneration. In the future, the Sixth Fuel Factory will serve as a platform for international dialogue, integrating ecology, art, and community interaction, breathing new life into these historical buildings, and allowing the public to experience the cultural significance and pulse of urban development.
